Towards responsible green mining
Nordic Iron is part of the development towards a sustainable society. Mining operations must be designed using modern technology to minimize impacts such as noise, vibration and emissions to air and water.
Sustainable development means meeting human needs in a way that does not prevent future generations from meeting their own needs. In concrete terms, it means maintaining the productive capacity of water, soil and ecosystems over the long term and minimizing negative impacts on nature and human health.
Sustainable development can be divided into three areas:
- Economic sustainability — economising with human and material resources in the long term.
- Social sustainability — building a stable but dynamic society that is sustainable over the long term within which basic human needs are met.
- Environmental sustainability — economic growth adapted to what the environment can tolerate without leading to environmental destruction.
When Nordic Iron plans its future operations, these three aspects of sustainability are given high priority. In economic sustainability, for example, we will use efficient and modern mining methods and machines that result in the lowest possible energy consumption, which means that Nordic Iron contributes to the conservation of resources. In social sustainability, the company wants to contribute to the development of the local area around Ludvika.
A number of factors will be considered in the planning work for the start of production, such as using electricity instead of diesel and minimizing emissions to watercourses. As mining will take place underground, there will be no open-cast pits to create large wounds in the landscape.
Management of sustainability efforts
Nordic Iron's efforts to minimize damage to nature and contribute to sustainable development are based on the policies and guidelines established by the Board of Directors. An important framework for this is the principles of the UN Global Compact. The ultimate responsibility for Nordic Iron's sustainability work lies with the Board of Directors, while the operational responsibility for following up on goals and prioritized activities lies with the company management.

We take responsibility, step by step for the benefit of all.
